Last year, 24.2 million people took a cruise. It’s easy to see why so many cruisers immediately book their next cruise when they get home.
Cruisers enjoy the best onboard entertainment, explore exciting new destinations each day, and only have to unpack once. And the Port Everglades is one of the most popular ports in Florida due to its convenient location on the southeast coast of the Florida Penninsula.
If you’ve booked a Port Everglades cruise, you’re probably counting down the days until you stroll onto your ship. But don’t depart without reading these three simple cruise tips.
1. Pack Light
Whatever clothes you’ve packed so far, put half of them back in your closet. Remember, cabins are a lot smaller than your bedroom at home. That means you simply may not have the room for everything you want to take.
Your first step should be to read the dress code for your ship. It’s likely that daytime will be “cruise casual”. Think thin summer dresses, shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, and flip-flops. You can also probably wear the same clothes at least twice — a dress you wear on a day trip can double as a cover-up by the pool.
If you get stuck, you’ll be able to use the laundry service on board.
You’ll usually also need to pack on “dressy” outfit for your cruise. Formal dinners usually only happen once or twice, so pack accordingly. As soon as you arrive onboard, get the unpacking out of the way and stash your luggage so you don’t spend the whole journey tripping over it.
2. Plan Your Trip
This is one of the most exciting parts of getting ready for cruising south Florida. Sure, a large portion of the trip is planned (it is a cruise after all), but you’ll also want to do some research.
Study your ship and consider what it has to offer. Each ship will have different amenities and activities, and these can include:
- Rock climbing
- Numerous restaurants and cafes
- Lessons (e.g. languages, crafts)
- Fitness centres
- And much more
Once you’ve found out what will be available, you can plan which amenities you’d like to take advantage of- particularly if you have a day or two at sea.
Along with your activities onboard, you’ll also want to consider your day trips. Many of these can be pre-booked. That means less reaching into your wallet while you’re cruising, and fewer decisions to make while you’re trying to relax.
3. Have Fun
Now is not the time to go on a diet, or try and catch up on some work you’ve left too late. Cruising is about relaxing. And with so many incredible restaurants to choose from, and exciting activities waiting for you, you need to be ready to unwind.
You can prepare for this last tip by educating clients and coworkers that you’ll be on vacation and therefore will be out of touch. Turn your phone off so you can really de-stress (and avoid massive roaming charges), and set up an “out of office” message on your email.
